A middleman is someone who takes a hold of both the content being sold, and the currency/item being traded and hands it over to the relevant parties. Using a trusted middleman is safer as neither party must "go first" in the deal. They both give their end of the deal to the middleman and both receive it at the same time.

To get in contact with a middleman just find them in the list and private message them! 

If you're interested in helping out other members by being a middleman, contact a moderator.
